Deathmatch wrestling certainly isn’t for everyone and is considered a niche within a niche in the wrestling business. Still, a handful of wrestlers like Nick Gage, G-Raver, and Matt Tremont have managed to garner fame wrestling this style. However, this past Friday, those who criticize hardcore wrestling had another opportunity to express their disgust after John Wayne Murdoch was set alight at Juggalo Championship Wrestling’s Powder Keg event.
Based on the footage, which has since gone viral, despite there being a fire spot, no fire extinguisher was readily available, and Murdoch would remain ablaze for far longer than planned. And now the 36-year-old has taken to X to show off the gruesome aftermath with a photograph captioned “Lower back got it much worse.“
Murdoch began wrestling in 2008 under the name Damien Payne and seemingly decided against pursuing a career in the big leagues by embracing the deathmatch style of wrestling. This would see him work for IWA-Mid South, CZW, GCW, and Japan’s Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS. And while the masses don’t respect this form of wrestling, it has allowed Murdoch to build his name enough that he can share a ring with potential future stars such as Gabe Kidd, Magan Bayne, and Zilla Fatu.
