Dave Meltzer’s Star Rating Revealed For Sting’s Retirement Match

While match ratings are subjective, many fans still consider Dave Meltzer’s rating system to be the go-to scale for judging the quality of a bout. Therefore, following Sting’s excellent retirement tag match at Revolution, fans have eagerly awaited confirmation of what the wrestling journalist deemed the contest worthy of. And now, in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it has been revealed that Meltzer officially rated it ⭐⭐⭐⭐¾, meaning Sting missed going out with a five-star classic by the finest of margins.

Sting has previously had matches rated five stars twice before, both of which were part of multi-man WarGames contests. However, many thought there was a real possibility of him having a third due to the inclusion of The Young Bucks. And while that unfortunately didn’t happen, considering Sting is in his 60s, it just shows how fantastic an in-ring worker he really was that fans thought he was capable of achieving the honor one more time.
