Last year, AEW fan favorite Darby Allin participated in the “10 Songs That Changed My Life” series for Kerrang, and his list was an eclectic mix ranging from Billy Idol to Mazzy Starr to Johnny Cash and just about everything in between.
In a recent interview on Busted Open Radio, Allin made a music analogy when comparing AEW to WWE. “If people are going to compare the two companies, WWE and AEW, I like to put it as a music reference,” Allin said. “WWE is like Taylor Swift and AEW is like Slayer. Taylor Swift can sell more records, but that doesn’t mean Slayer doesn’t have a huge following. Our brand of music is a little more intense and violent, and we don’t have to change anything. We don’t have to try to sell the same records as Taylor Swift. We’re kind of in our own world. That’s where I like to compare the two things. You can watch All Out and it can be a little offensive, but I live to offend people.”
Coincidentally the comparison is timely given that Slayer performed their first show in five years at last weekend’s Riot Fest. Allin is scheduled to face Jon Moxley at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Allin’s clip comparing wrestling’s two biggest companies can be viewed below.
