Darby Allin did one of the most insane spots in All Elite Wrestling history at Sunday night’s Revolution pay-per-view. In his tag team title match with wrestling icon Sting against The Young Bucks, the charismatic AEW fan-favorite leapt from a ladder inside the ring through a glass plate that was set up on chairs on the ringside floor.
Allin has had numerous memorable matches and spots in his AEW career, and in a recent interview with Kerrang he said that he wasn’t really inspired by wrestlers of the previous generation but rather by musicians.
“I didn’t really get inspired by wrestlers growing up,” he said. “They never really spoke to me. I was more inspired by skateboarding musicians. I listen to music literally all day – when I’m cooking, when I’m showering, when I’m working out. The only real time that I switch it off is when I’m meditating. Music has definitely given me confidence to do the stuff I’ve done!”
In Kerrang’s “10 Songs That Changed My Life” series, Allin talked about the tunes that shaped him the most. They were: “Comfortably Numb” (Pink Floyd – The first song that I remember hearing); “My Way” (Sid Vicious – The song that reminds me of being at school); “Eyes Without A Face” (Billy Idol – The song that reminds me of first love); “Wild In The Streets” (Circle Jerks – The song that reminds me of the first show I went to); “Do They Owe Us A Living” (Crass – The song that pumps me up before getting in the ring); “Girl From North Country Fair” (Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan – The song I like to sing along to); “Sunshine Ward” (Amebix – The song I’d like to have as an entrance theme); “Bangarang” (Skrillex – The worst song ever written); “Roseblood” (Mazzy Starr – The song that helps me chill out); “When I Die” (GG Allin – The song I want played at my funeral).
