During a new interview with DJ Vlad, WWE Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley has opened up about his past steroid use during his time with TNA. In this, he confessed to taking them for about 3 years, which helped him bulk up significantly. Still, while the veteran wrestler took full responsibility for his choices, he noted that it hurt his knees and that he ultimately quit because he wanted to stay healthy for his family and see future milestones with his children and grandchildren.
“Carrying all that weight around hurt my knees because I wore knee pads and braces my whole career. You can’t do that and expect nothing to happen. I don’t blame TNA. I blame myself. I indulged in that stuff. Nobody put a gun to my head and forced me. I look in the mirror and go, ‘D-Von, you don’t want this. You want to be around for your kids. You want to see your sons walk down the aisle on their wedding day. You want to play with your grandkids. You need to cut this bullsh*t out now.’” – D-Von Dudley
In professional wrestling, anabolic steroids have long been misused by performers seeking rapid muscle growth, enhanced strength, and faster recovery from the demanding schedule and high-impact moves. These synthetic hormones mimic testosterone, helping wrestlers achieve the massive physiques that defined the industry in the 80s and early 90s. However, the apparent benefits come at a steep cost, including increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, liver and kidney damage, hormonal disruptions, and muscle injuries contributing to the tragic history of premature deaths in wrestling.
