Confirmation Of Matt Cardona’s AEW Status Following His Surprise Return

During this week’s episode of Collision, Matt Cardona made his return to AEW television as Adam Copeland’s surprise opponent. And while Copeland would successfully retain his TNT Championship in a nearly 14-minute match, fans were delighted to see the former Zack Ryder appear for a major promotion again. However, anyone hoping to find out that he is now officially All Elite will be disappointed, as according to Fightful Select, he hasn’t signed a contract and thus remains a free agent.

“Matt Cardona appeared as a surprise opponent for Adam Copeland in the Cope Open on AEW Collision. We’re told that as of now, Cardona remains a free agent, and has not signed with All Elite Wrestling.”

Following his WWE release in 2020, Cardona debuted for AEW on the July 29th episode of Dynamite, where he saved Cody Rhodes from Dark Order members Alex Reynolds and John Silver. The following week, Cardona would team with Rhodes against the duo, although he would only wrestle one more time for the promotion as part of an eight-man tag team match at All Out due to having signed a short-term contract that wasn’t extended.
