Cody Rhodes Comments On Potentially Losing WrestleMania Spot Following The Returns Of The Rock & CM Punk

Cody Rhodes achieved many pro wrestlers’ dream last year when he headlined WrestleMania 39 against Roman Reigns. However, as he didn’t win the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, his “story” remains unfinished. At one point, he was expected to walk into the main event of WrestleMania 40 and get a second opportunity, although that is currently looking increasingly unlikely following the returns of both The Rock and CM Punk to WWE television. And now Rhodes has addressed this situation while speaking to Sports Illustrated, saying “I’m not flinching.

“The Rock is The Great One–he’s still electrifying, CM Punk is one of the greatest stars in the history of wrestling. I know what I’m up against. Look at the roster–it’s loaded with stars. But that doesn’t bother me. I’m not flinching. I’m not rooting against anyone else, I’m just working to make it happen.”

38-year-old Rhodes departed WWE back in 2016 due to frustration with his creative, specifically having to play the Stardust character. Subsequently, he became a regular on the independent circuit and worked for ROH, TNA, and New Japan before joining AEW as both a talent and Executive Vice President. While in AEW, he would demonstrate to the world he was a genuine main eventer and thus made himself desirable to WWE, who re-signed him in 2022 to be one of the faces of the company.
