CM Punk Reportedly In Talks With WWE

Following a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In, CM Punk was fired by AEW on September 2nd. Therefore, it appeared his pro wrestling career could be over, given how his time with WWE previously ended. However, Dave Meltzer has now reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that those close to Punk have confirmed that he intends to return to the company he previously walked out on, with the two sides currently in talks.

Regarding C.M. Punk, there is obviously tons of talk regarding him returning. There have been rumors that it’s happening, but those in WWE have only said that no deal is completed and those close to Punk have told us that it is his intention to return and the two sides are in talks. ”

44-year-old Punk had a memorable nine-year run with WWE, becoming one of the company’s biggest stars in the process. Still, his time with the promotion ended on a sour note when he walked out due to a combination of burnout and injuries following the 2014 Royal Rumble. This resulted in the company firing him on what just happened to be his wedding day, and he subsequently vowed never to work for them again. Still, a lot of time has passed since then, and considering a return to AEW looks impossible, WWE is likely his only option to continue his career in front of a large audience.
