The topic of Chris Benoit is incredibly contentious among wrestling fans, with many to this day debating whether his horrendous crimes override the talent he brought to the wrestling industry. However, his in-ring ability isn’t typically up for debate, with the vast majority of fans and especially wrestlers consider him one of the all-time best.
Now though, Impact Wrestling’s Jordynne Grace has caused controversy on Twitter by saying that Benoit wouldn’t be able to compete with most of today’s best wrestlers. And while many fans would try and debate this, Chavo Guerrero Jr., a longtime friend of Benoit, would simply tweet that she had lost a lot of wrestling credibility for having such an opinion.
Many believe Benoit’s actions between June 22 and June 24, 2007, resulted from CRT and emotional issues stemming from the death of Chavo’s uncle Eddie; nevertheless, few excuse or forgive him. Although it is hard for anyone who watched him wrestle in his prime to believe he couldn’t hang with the likes of Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay, considering he helped establish the style which made them famous. And while it doesn’t feel right to praise Benoit, he was clearly an incredible talent that would have been inducted into most wrestling Hall of Fame’s had he not taken the lives of his wife and son.
