Buddy Matthews has been sidelined from AEW for ten months after seriously injuring his ankle during his entrance at Grand Slam Australia in February. Initially, it was hoped the Australian would only be absent from the ring for a few months, but it later became apparent he needed surgery. And now via his Instagram Stories, Matthews has unfortunately confirmed he is still dealing with “nerve issues with a lot of numbness,” acknowledging his recovery is going to be a long process.

37-year-old Matthews, real name Matthew Adams, debuted on the Australian indie scene in 2007 and was soon excelling. Signed by WWE in 2013, he captured the NXT Tag Team Championship with Wesley Blake, the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, and the Raw Tag Team Championship with Seth Rollins before his unexpected release in 2021. However, he wouldn’t let his WWE departure end his wrestling dream, and he subsequently joined AEW in 2022 as part of House of Black, who memorably won the AEW World Trios Championships from The Elite.
