While Bryan Danielson hasn’t wrestled since October 2024, he remains All Elite due to his consulting role in the company, and some consider him to be Tony Khan’s right-hand man when it comes to booking. And now, during an interview with TalkSport, the former AEW Champion has disclosed that he first recognized the company as the “good guys of professional wrestling” after seeing how they handled the tragic death of Jon Huber, better known as Luke Harper in WWE and Brodie Lee in AEW.
Huber sadly died in 2020 at the age of just 41 of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, leaving behind a wife and two young children. Subsequently, AEW would hold a special episode of Dynamite, titled “The Brodie Lee Celebration of Life,” which set aside storylines so that each member of the Dark Order, the group Huber led, could wrestle in his honor. Included in this was a match chosen by Huber’s eldest son, which saw Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy, and Preston Vance face Team Taz.
Following the tribute show’s airing, Dave Melter of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter named it “the best wrestling television show of the year,” while Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com called it “the classiest, most perfect tribute show I’ve ever seen.” And while the show didn’t feature any five-star matches, which is what AEW has become known for, cagematch.net currently has it listed as the second best wrestling show ever, just slightly behind the Hana Kimura Memorial show in 2021, which was equally as emotional.
