Brian Cage Explains Why He Picked AEW Over WWE

At one point, it looked like Brian Cage could be WWE-bound once my AEW contract expired, but he decided to remain All Elite. And now, in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the bodybuilder has revealed that after carefully weighing his options, he concluded that AEW offered far greater stability and peace of mind than WWE, valuing being free from the constant anxiety of potential release that hangs over so many WWE talents. Additionally, he noted that he relishes the freedom to pursue outside ventures as an independent contractor.

After going back and forth, all the different pros and cons, a lot of stuff with AEW just seemed safer, if you will. It’s pretty hard to have some sort of security in this business, but I’m like, I’ve been here for a while; they [WWE] just randomly release anyone … We’re an actual independent contractor, so I can do anything else outside of AEW, which is a plus too. Then I felt like I don’t have a fear of getting released if I stay here too long.– Brian Cage

AEW has built a strong reputation for rarely cutting talent, placing heavy emphasis on roster stability and long-term commitment rather than the frequent releases common elsewhere. Unlike WWE’s pattern of abrupt, large-scale cuts, AEW prefers to retain performers even during slower periods. This approach gives stars like Cage the security to focus on career development without the ongoing fear of losing their job. Supported by guaranteed-money contracts and comprehensive travel perks, AEW’s strategy fosters loyalty and allows wrestlers to confidently invest in their personal brands without worrying about a sudden name change.
