However, despite being such a big match, Lesnar vs Cena isn’t going to headline Wrestlepalooza, with the bout instead opening the show.
And while some have claimed it’s a clever way for WWE to potentially counter-programme AEW’s All Out main event, according to Fightful Select, ESPN actually decided they wanted Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre headline due to “the pomp and circumstance of a big title match.”
News broke in August that WWE had signed a mega-money deal to bring WWE premium live events to ESPN, with WrestleMania 42 set to be the first show. However, as WWE had managed to fulfil their obligations to Peacock early, the move to ESPN was made earlier. Therefore, Wrestlepaolooza was announced to kick off the partnership officially, which just happens to take place the same day as one of AEW’s flagship events.
