Pop-punk staple Avril Lavigne is currently on the road for her “Greatest Hits” tour. Lavigne has experimented in other genres, but many of her most well-known and successful songs are of the pop-punk variety.
Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley, and the couple were together for a little under seven years. This weekend in Las Vegas, Lavigne surprised her audience by bringing out Whibley to perform a duet on the Sum 41 hit, “In Too Deep.”
“Tonight we have a special guest, and he plays guitar in one of my favourite bands, and your favourite bands,” Lavigne said before inviting Whibley onto the stage. Lavigne will release her first greatest hits album on June 21. Her latest album, “Love Sux,” came out in 2022 and featured guest appearances by Machine Gun Kelly and Blink 182’s Mark Hopper.
Sum 41 released their latest album “Heaven :x: Hell” back in late March, and the band has announced the tour in support of the record will be their last. “It was a tough decision because I love what I do and I’ve loved being in this band for almost 30 years,” Whibley told A Radio Rock. “But there comes a point in life where you start asking yourself, ‘Is this all I’m ever gonna do? Is there anything else?’ And I’ll never really know unless I try to go see what else is out there for me. So I knew I had to make this decision at this point, although it was tough.”
