Ash Irvine Says He Hopes His Father Chris Jericho Gets Respect From The Wrestling Community When He Retires

Recently FAU student, WebIsJericho.com columnist, and son of AEW’s Chris Jericho, Ash Irvine, was interviewed by Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald and would cover multiple topics. One of which was being the son of a legendary pro wrestler. And while he acknowledged that he’d taken his father’s fame for granted due to growing up with him as a WWE Superstar, he’d say that when he finally retires from the ring, he hopes he gets recognized by the wrestling community for his contributions.

He does all this insane crazy stuff that I sit at home and watch and take for granted because that’s what’s been going on for my entire life because he’s been doing it for 30 years, and you know, I take what he does for granted, but he is truly one of the greatest of all time in wrestling, and you know I hope he gets his respect from the wrestling community when he finally wraps it up.

I don’t know when that will be, hopefully not for a long time, but yeah, it’s always fun to watch AEW and see him out there, or my friends will tell me they saw an AEW commercial my dad was on it. That’s always funny.

Many fans suspected Jericho, who recently turned 52, would retire at the end of his current AEW contract. However, it was recently announced he’d signed a multiyear extension which was especially huge news at the time due to all the CM Punk drama kicking off and AEW needing the security Jericho provided. And while Jericho will have to retire from the ring at some point, based on the current quality of his matches, it looks to be years away. Plus, given he has already proven to be a hit behind the commentary desk, even when his in-ring career is over, he will likely remain a significant figure in the business.
