Andrade El Idolo Unable To Wrestle On Forbidden Door PPV Due To AAA/CMLL Rivalry

Forbidden Door, which is a cross-promotion pay-per-view between AEW and New Japan, is scheduled for June 26th and will be headlined by Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi. Given the historical significance and magnitude of the event, every wrestler contracted to either company wants to compete on the show. Yet unfortunately, for Andrade El Idolo, it appears he may not be permitted to compete due to the long-standing rivalry between Mexican promotions CMLL and AAA.

Andrade has a long history himself with New Japan, where he wrestled as La Sombra between 2010 and 2015. So it would have been fitting for him to appear at Forbidden Door. However, while not confirmed, it is speculated that CMLL, who Andrade previously wrestled for, may have insisted that New Japan, with whom they have a relationship, block him from the show. The reason being failed to work for them after departing WWE, and instead on AAA’s TripleMania shows in both 2021 and 2022. And while this does appear to be petty, the Mexican promotions are longtime foes and take every opportunity to settle scores.

In fact, the rivalry is so intense that in 2019 Dragon Lee was fired by CMLL for wrestling on a PWG show that also featured AAA talents. With CMLL issuing a statement saying he was let go for not following programming and company guidelines. Therefore unless Tony Khan can heal a 30-year rift between the promotions in less than two weeks, Andrade could be off the show.
