While some believe WWE would rehire controversial wrestler Alberto Del Rio, it appears his return may actually be forthcoming. This was disclosed by Del Rio himself during a new interview with La Tijera Lucha Libre, where he revealed that he remains in contact with management, noting, “All that’s left is for us to shake hands and make it happen.” However, it wasn’t made clear whether this would be a main roster comeback or as part of the AAA roster.
48-year-old Del Rio debuted in WWE in 2010 as a wealthy Mexican aristocrat heel, quickly rising to prominence by winning the 2011 Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank briefcase. Subsequently, he had notable feuds with Edge, Rey Mysterio, John Cena, CM Punk, and Sheamus. Still, he was released in 2014 due to conduct issues, and although he returned in 2015 and won the United States Championship twice, he departed again in 2016.
