While Alberto Del Rio, now wrestling as Alberto El Patrón, is considered toxic by a large portion of fans in North America, in Mexico, he is a hero, with fans at AAA shows frequently chanting his name. And while it is still unclear whether this support will see the luchador eventually return to WWE television, Alberto has taken to X to acknowledge the support he has been receiving, saying “Thank you, my beloved Mexico, for not forgetting your patrón.”
For those unaware, Alberto faced severe allegations involving the kidnapping and assault of an ex-girlfriend, leading to him becoming persona non grata in most North American wrestling promotions. However, all charges were dropped when a key witness, presumed to be the alleged victim, did not appear in court. Still, while the former WWE Champion has never been convicted of a crime, the court of public opinion, at least outside of Mexico, has found him guilty and been very vocal online about not wanting him back in WWE.
