AEW’s Darby Allin Rejects Comparison To ECW Original

In a recent sit-down interview with Chris Van Vliet, AEW star Darby Allin has addressed the long-standing comparisons to ECW original Spike Dudley, saying he doesn’t see the resemblance. While acknowledging similarities in taking brutal bumps, Allin emphasized his superior technical skills by saying, “I’m way more of a wrestler’s wrestler.” He added that he could outwrestle many others on a technical level, revealing he has a ring at home.

I don’t really see it, to be honest. Because I’m way more of a wrestler’s wrestler. I don’t feel like he was ever a technical wrestler … I sh*t you not, I feel like I could out-wrestle a lot of people from a technical standpoint but, ain’t nobody wanna see Darby Allin do a lot of technical wrestling but when I do, it’s super fun, because I feel like people always forget that I know how to do this. But I got a ring at my house, and I train all the time.– Darby Allin

55-year-old Spike Dudley, real name  Matt Hyson, found fame in ECW with a giant killer gimmick, winning two ECW World Tag Team Championships and taking legendary bumps in the process. Joining WWE in 2001 after ECW’s closure, he became a big fan favorite underdog, capturing multiple titles, including eight Hardcore Championships. Later competed in TNA as Brother Runt and on the independents until semi-retiring around 2010.
