AEW’s Creative Plans For CM Punk Post-All Out Revealed

CM Punk came out of All Out as AEW Champion; however, he was also injured and subsequently started a fight with The Elite. So while not official, it’s believed he is done with the company. Now though, while speaking on The Sessions podcast, Stokely Hathaway has revealed that Punk was set to work with The Firm had everything that happened not transpired. With it noted by Hathaway that Punks specifically picked him as someone to work with, rather than any of the wrestlers in the faction.

Everything that was supposed to happen with The Firm did not happen. Back at All out, what happened immediately after the pay-per-view, that was a huge part of it. The person we were supposed to directly feud with is no longer in the company. That was one thing I was looking forward to because I was hand-chosen for that role. I’m just going to say it. I don’t know the specifics about people choosing sides. I just know that CM Punk said, “Hey. I want to work with this guy”. That means a lot, regardless of what has happened.

Hathaway previously worked for WWE as Malcolm Bivens on their NXT brand but was released shortly after turning down a long-term deal. He would go on to sign for AEW and upon his debut at Double or Nothing, aligned with Jade Cargill. Since then, he has established a heel group named The Firm, consisting mainly of lower-card wrestlers who would do MJF’s dirty work. However, the most high-profile members, Ethan Page and W. Morrissey would have been significant challenges for Punk under Hathaway’s leadership.
