Sheamus’ use of social media platform X is typically pretty good; however, after receiving a great deal of backlash for sharing a photo with Gable Steveson recently, he has now made that look like it was no big deal. That is because, on Sunday afternoon, he would compare his WWE colleague and long-term rival to Adolf Hitler. Obviously, this tweet grabbed fans’ attention, and while Sheamus quickly deleted it, the internet is forever.
Ever since WWE called Gunther up to the main roster, the company has faced criticism for linking him to the Nazi Party. Initially, they would do this by trademarking the name “Gunther Stark,” which was also that of a notable Nazi U-Boat Commander, which saw the company mocked for their lack of due diligence. And while that was seemingly an innocent mistake, when Gunther was rated as “88” in WWE 2K23, that was less easy to dismiss, with the number famously used by white supremacists to indicate “heil Hitler.”
