The Blade hasn’t appeared in front of AEW or ROH fans since January 2024, and his last match was on an indie show in February 2024. This would later be revealed to be because he was dealing with intense pain due to bulging and ruptured discs in his back, with it unknown how long he would be sidelined following surgery. However, during a recent interview on Talk’nShop, the 45-year-old wrestler revealed he believes he is close to being medically cleared to resume his career.
The Blade, whose real name is Jesse Guilmette, has been wrestling since 2000, with his first break coming when he wrestled a squash match against Shad Gaspard in 2010 during an episode of SmackDown. However, this wouldn’t lead to a contract offer, and apart from a TNA run, it appeared he was set to be an indie wrestling journeyman.
However, he finally received his big break in 2019 when he and tag partner The Butcher debuted for AEW, attacking Cody Rhodes on Dynamite. From there, the duo would be regularly featured alongside The Blade’s real-life wife, The Bunny, although she has since departed the company, and decided to take a break from the business.
