Having not wrestled for All Elite Wrestling since September, Shawn Spears has now taken to social media platform X to confirm he is leaving the promotion. However, unlike most AEW departures, it appears that this isn’t a case of him simply not having his contract renewed, with him saying, “This is a personal choice and one that is best for me and my family at this time.“ For those unaware, Spears is married to fellow former WWE talent Peyton Royce and recently announced she is pregnant with their second child.
42-year-old Spears was one of AEW’s first signings, having been granted his WWE release in 2019, seemingly knowing there would be a spot for him in the newly launched company due to his friendship with Cody Rhodes. And while he did have a memorable feud with Rhodes, as AEW’s roster grew, he would fall down the pecking order despite being part of The Pinnacle, which saw him wrestle in the first Blood And Guts and the second Stadium Stampede match.
