Adam Cole Shares Health Update After Suffering “Very Serious” Concussion At Forbidden Door

During Forbidden Door, Adam Cole was injured, with the Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealing he suffered a “very serious” concussion. The brain injury occurred during the four-way IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match and seemingly happened during the conclusion of the bout when Kazuchika Okada dropkicked Cole before attempting to hit the Rainmaker, with Cole collapsing after ducking the clothesline. At this point, Jay White, who had been outside the ring, called an audible, quickly entered, hit Okada with a Bladerunner, and stole the pin on Cole.

Now, having not gone into much detail regarding his recovery on social media or his Twitch stream, the AEW star has shared an update on the Wrestle Buddies podcast. In this, he would say his recovery is on track, and AEW is making sure he gets the proper treatment. Additionally, he’d acknowledge he was banged up before the pay-per-view but currently feels good and is confident he’ll be back in the ring soon.

I’m doing ok. I’m definitely on the path, on the track to recovery for sure. I have a great team around me that is helping and just making sure that I’m taken care of to the best of my ability. AEW has been fantastic as far as making sure that I’m getting the right care that I deserve.

I was pretty banged up. So, again, for 14 years being in the pro wrestling industry, I think the most time I had ever had off, ever, as far as traveling, being on the road, was one month. I’ve been going, going, going non-stop. So eventually, our bodies kind of catch up to us, and I had a couple of things that were kind of lingering for me and then with what happened at Forbidden Door. But I feel good. I’m very confident I’ll be back in the ring soon.

Despite the update, precisely how long Cole will be sidelined remains unknown, and while approximately 80 percent of concussions resolve over ten days, the fact it has been described as “very serious” always made it appear he would be out for some time. However, given that it was known Cole was already dealing with a shoulder injury that could eventually require surgery, perhaps the time away could be beneficial long-term as it gives him time to heal up.
