Like him or not, there is no denying that CM Punk is a massive star, and with that comes a serious amount of backstage influence. And now it is being reported by Ryan Frederick of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via a Discord chat that Punk was actually supposed to put Adam Page over at Double or Nothing back in May 2022. However, the former WWE star apparently politicked his way into winning the AEW Championship and then ensured Page wouldn’t be figured into the title picture anytime soon.

Punk’s issue with Page stems from a promo that the then AEW World Champion cut on Punk regarding workers’ rights, which Punk took personally. Therefore it appears Punk used his influence to have the title taken off Page, which, while not unusual in wrestling, certainly isn’t a good look. Of course, far more significant issues have since transpired following All Out and Punk’s brawl with The Elite, so it will be interesting to see what kind of, if any, influence Punk still has when he is medically cleared to return to the ring.
