WWE filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office this week for the phrase “Career Killer.” At present, it isn’t officially confirmed who will be getting this new moniker. Still, it is widely speculated online to be a new nickname for Gunther, as it aligns with his upcoming match with AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, which, if Shinsuke Nakamura’s now-deleted Instagram post is to be believed, will be his final match.
In 2025, 38-year-old “The Ring General” solidified his dominant heel persona by defeating two pro wrestling legends in their final matches. The first came on July 12 at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he defeated Goldberg, officially ending the WCW icon’s career. Then, on December 13, on Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., Gunther forced John Cena to tap out to his first submission loss in over 20 years, sparking a great deal of fan controversy but elevating Gunther to the status of a genuine main-event heel who could defeat anyone.
