Following their match on Saturday Night’s Main Event, Shinsuke Nakamura may have inadvertently spoiled the outcome of AJ Styles vs. Gunther at WWE Royal Rumble 2026. This is because of a now-deleted Instagram post recounting a past conversation with Styles, the Japanese star, who revealed he plans to retire at the Royal Rumble. This confirms that Styles’ upcoming bout in Riyadh on January 31 against Gunther will likely be his final match and mark the end of his 10-year WWE run.
Gunther has become WWE’s modern retirement specialist, decisively ending the in-ring careers of legends in high-stakes matches. On July 12, 2025, he defeated Bill Goldberg in his final bout at Saturday Night’s Main Event, retaining the World Heavyweight Championship. Then, on December 13, 2025, he forced John Cena to tap out in Cena’s emotional farewell match at another Saturday Night’s Main Event, solidifying his status as the ultimate closer for iconic superstars. Therefore, many were anticipating him defeating Styles, although it’s doubtful WWE is happy about Nakamura seemingly spoiling this.
