DDT Pro-Wrestling put on their third annual Ultimate Party event overnight, headlined by Yuki Ueno vs. Chris Brookes and also featuring Chris Jericho vs. Konosuke Takeshita. Additionally, on the show was Joshi performer Saki Akai retiring from the ring, and this would feature a video message from WWE star Shinsuke Nakamura. However, it only aired to the fans in attendance, with the live stream being muted and a different camera angle being shown.
WWE has shown in recent years that they are willing to work with other promotions in a limited capacity, with AJ Styles previously sending a video message to Impact Wrestling and Rey Mysterio sending one to AAA. Still, they would go above and beyond for The Great Muta’s retirement tour when they permitted Nakamura to wrestle the legendary performer in NOAH, which was considered a huge deal in Japan.
