CM Punk shocked the wrestling world when he returned to WWE at last November’s Survivor Series. Yet, during his first televised match back at the Royal Rumble, he unfortunately suffered a triceps injury, which has sidelined him from competing ever since. However, after getting physical during the main event of Clash at the Castle when he appeared in a referee’s shirt to screw over Drew McIntyre, he has now revealed during the post-show press conference that he believes he is about to be medically cleared.
“I was cleared only for referee duty. I had a hiccup out there, but we’ll go back to the lab and reassess. My arm feels amazing, I got permission to skip Raw in Corpus Christi to go back home to Chicago to see my doctors with the idea I’m going to be cleared. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that. I think SmackDown’s in Chicago next week, so I’m a Raw guy and skip Raw, get cleared and show up on SmackDown to give everyone the good news, hopefully.”
Despite his injury status, WWE has continued to capitalize on Punk’s fame by having him regularly appear on television. This has allowed the company to continue to build up his eventual match with the man who injured him, Drew McIntyre, with the duo trading barbs both in persona and online. Still, whether Punk can still deliver in the ring, given the wear and tear on his body and multiple surgeries, remains to be seen, with his future match with McIntyre being huge for numerous reasons.
