WWE Has Reportedly Discussed Bringing Current AEW Talent Back To The Company

AEW would capitalize on WWE’s multiple budget cuts over the past few years by signing many released talents to bolster their roster. And while more prominent names were recruited, a real coup was accomplished when they signed William Regal to a contract. However, after Triple H posted a tweet showing Regal saying “WarGames” multiple times, many fans have wondered if he could be the next former talent brought back under Triple H’s new regime.

And now, while speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has revealed that WWE has internally discussed this, although notes Regal still has several months remaining on his AEW contract.

I would just say that when his contract is up, it would not surprise me. Tony Khan can make him a better offer, but it is certainly something that’s been discussed, I will say that his contract is not up for a long time. I mean, I think it was only a one-year deal, but it’s not. I don’t wanna give a date; I was told a date, and it might be wrong, but it was still several months away.

I’ll put it this way. He’s not going back this week unless Tony lets him out of his contract. I mean, and I suppose, I don’t know, that’s a bad precedent to set, but maybe for Regal, he’d do it because Regal’s not going to be a wrestler if he goes back there, and he may not even be on television, he’ll probably be an office person.

Regal’s first run with WWE was nothing short of a disaster after his addiction issues with pain medication and valium became overwhelming. While he would be released, WWE first sent him to rehab, allowing him to get clean and turn his life around. Then after a brief spell in WCW, he would return to become the star fans know him as today, holding multiple championships and winning the King of the Ring.

So considering that and how close he is to Triple H, plus his son Charlie Dempsey is regarded as a future WWE star, Regal would likely be open to a return. Nevertheless, Tony Khan has almost bottomless pockets and may simply offer more money to keep him.
