WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash Issues Apology Amid Podcast Controversy

Earlier this week, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash sparked controversy on his podcast by referring to Je’Von Evans as “Mr. Bojangles,” a term fans deemed offensive. And now, via X.com, Nash has apologized, acknowledging the term’s poor taste, and clarified that his intention was to suggest that Evans adopt a more contemporary style like Sol Ruca. So far, this has seen mixed reactions from fans, with some praising him for taking accountability while others questioning parts of the statement.

The “Mr. Bojangles” reference in Kevin Nash’s comment about Evans alludes to Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, a pioneering Black tap dancer and actor. Famous for his skill and roles in vaudeville, Broadway, and films, he performed during the era of minstrel shows and faced criticism for playing roles that reinforced subservient Black stereotypes. Therefore, many fans viewed Nash’s use of the nickname as evoking a racial stereotype.
