WWE Criticized For The Timing Of Gable Steveson’s Release

Gable Steveson is the latest name that WWE has released from their contract early, and while it wasn’t a total surprise given he hasn’t wrestled since February, the timing has been called into question This is because it’s been noted by Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com that had WWE cut him a few weeks earlier, the Olympic gold medalist he would still have been able to be to compete at the Olympic trials, where he would have been one of the favorites to given his pedigree. However, Mason Parris has already taken the available spot.

“The timing of the cut is especially cruel because had it been a few weeks earlier, he could have competed in the Olympic trials, which, based on his 2023 performance, he’d have been the heavy favorite. He would have been a favorite for either a gold or silver medal in the Olympics this summer had he done so, but it’s too late to make the U.S. team, as Parris will be the heavyweight.”

23-year-old Steveson said back in 2020 that working for WWE was “a dream,” and at the following year’s SummerSlam, he would make an appearance before officially signing a contract with the promotion. Subsequently, he was included in the 2021 draft, which appeared to indicate he was being fast-tracked to the Raw roster. Yet, that ended up not being the case, and since then, his appearances have been sporadic, with him quietly joining the NXT roster in June 2022 but hardly being featured.
