Confirmation On Whether Kenny Omega Has Ungone Surgery

Back in December, AEW’s Kenny Omega took to social media to let his fans know that he had been hospitalized. At the time, not much more was known about the circumstances, although it would later be reported that he had been diagnosed with diverticulitis, which is the same illness that sidelined Brock Lesnar during his UFC career.

Subsequently, Omega would try a myriad of alternative treatments in an attempt to avoid the very serious surgery. However, with him not getting better, it was known surgery was his last resort, and it has now been confirmed by Fightful Select that the Canadian pro wrestler underwent surgery on May 16h in New York.

“Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that Kenny Omega underwent surgery last week to aid in the recovery from diverticulitis. Omega underwent surgery in New York on May 16.”

Prior to his health setback, Omega was set to team up with Chris Jericho at Worlds End against the then-AEW Tag Team Champions Bill Bill and Ricky Starks. This match was highly anticipated by fans, who were hopeful for a title switch. Yet, due to his health condition, Omega was unable to compete, leading to a change in the match lineup. Instead, Jericho would claim the title shot with his former Inner Circle stablemate Sammy Guevara at Battle of the Belts IX, although they wouldn’t emerge victorious.
