FTR’s Dax Harwood made his name in WWE as Scott Dawson, working for the company between 2012 and 2020, establishing himself as a tag team specialist in the process. And while he now works for AEW, and will likely end his career there, it has been spotted by those who follow trademark filings that on Friday, WWE applied to trademark “Scott Dawson”.
Why WWE decided to file for ownership of a name not used in several years is unclear. However, they also filed for “Duke Hudson” and “Slapjack,” suggesting they are simply looking to lock down past talents’ ring names, potentially to stop them from being used elsewhere, although the choices appear very random.
41-year-old Harwood made his AEW debut alongside FTR tag partner Cash Wheeler on Dynamite’s May 27, 2020, episode. Not long afterward, the duo won the AEW Tag Championships from Kenny Omega and Adam Page at All Out, making FTR the first duo to hold tag team gold in both AEW and WWE. And while they would go on to win championships in ROH, AAA, and New Japan thanks to AEW’s working relationships, arguably their biggest match ever is yet to come, with AEW building towards them eventually facing WWE legends Cope and Christian Cage.
