Over the weekend, Santos Escobar received online criticism for his performance in the AAA Rey de Reyes tournament final, which did not meet his usual high standards. And now, seemingly explaining why he looked out of sorts, Fightful Select has reported he is scheduled to undergo surgery this week to repair a torn tricep, which occurred during an NXT house show match with Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. earlier this year. How long he’ll be sidlesled for is unknown, but he possibly won’t wrestle again this year.
“Fightful Select & Fightful Español has learned that Santos Escobar worked AAA Rey de Reyes injured. The injury got more aggravated during the match, and he is set to undergo surgery this Thursday for a torn tricep. The original injury occurred on the NXT house show tour while working with Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. during Royal Rumble weekend.” – Fightful Select
41-year-old Escobar, real name Jorge Luis Alcantar Bolly, is a second-generation wrestler, being the son of El Fantasma. Debuting in 2000, he excelled in CMLL before joining AAA. As King Cuerno in Lucha Underground, he captured the Gift of the Gods Championship and then joined WWE in 2019 as El Hijo del Fantasma, formed the Legado Del Fantasma stable, and competed on SmackDown, feuding with Rey Mysterio.
