Will Ospreay recently made the move to AEW, and he talked about his decision on a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho. He also shared who he thinks should succeed him as the top talent in New Japan Pro Wrestling now that he’s gone.
“I guess I just ran with it, but I’m very curious who they’re going with now,” Ospreay said of his time in NJPW. “I guess they’re gonna go with Zack (Sabre Jr.) now. I think that’s the right decision. The guy’s nearly fluent in Japanese as well. That’s like the best thing about it. (David) Finlay’s getting a push, and deservedly so. He’s worked extremely hard.”
Ospreay said he also hopes that fans stick with NJPW even though he’s gone. He feels that the company’s working relationship with AEW should help.
“I’m hoping that people don’t give up on the product,” he said. “I still want people to be invested in New Japan and still enjoy the shows, and I believe guys like Jack Perry are going over there. So AEW is still supporting them. That’s all you want in a relationship. You just wanna be able to know that even though these guys are coming over here, not only can we come back and do shows for New Japan, but we’ll give you some of our guys just to make sure that the relationship is all good.”
