A news release by the Los Angeles Police Department confirms that Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by authorities and booked for attempted murder. The incident happened Tuesday as police were locating three hit-and-run suspects. Police saw one suspect run towards the rear of a residence where they also encountered Lauren in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun.
Police apparently ordered Lauren to drop the weapon multiple times. She refused and allegedly pointed her gun at officers who opened fire striking her in the shoulder.
TMZ reported that a wounded Lauren, who was police identified under her married name, Jillian Shriner, retreated into her home and later came back out with her family’s babysitter. She was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. She was later booked for attempted murder. Police determined that Lauren wasn’t involved in the hit-and-run that brought authorities to the situation to begin with.
Weezer is scheduled to perform this weekend at Coachella.
