During this week’s episode of Dynamite, Tay Conti would be referred to as Tay Melo, which was confusing, to say the least. Had she become Tay Guevara, it would have made sense, as she married Sammy Guevera this weekend, but Melo was used instead. And now, it has been explained by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Conti was her previous married surname between 2017 and 2021 and therefore given the new marriage, she has dropped her ex-husband’s name as a performer.
The 27-year-olds birth name is Taynara Melo de Carvalho which explains where Melo came from, and she actually wrestled under this version of her name during her initial two matches for WWE. Still, she was going by Conti two months later. Yet despite praise from those who saw her wrestle, WWE would ultimately cut her as part of budget cuts in 2020. This, however, ended up being fortunate for the Brazilian, as she is now one of the most prominent female stars for AEW and met her husband through the promotion.
