And now, the 64-year-old has surprised his listeners on his BroDown podcast by confirming he’s written nine episodes of television for Billy Corgan’s NWA. When these episodes will be taped and then air remains unclear, although he would disclose that they will apparently cover real issues in the wrestling business.
Vince Russo built his reputation at WWE, rising from editor of their magazine to co-writing the TV shows with Vince McMahon himself. So when he and Ed Ferrara defected to WCW in 1999, it was viewed as a seismic shift, with experts forecasting that WCW would quickly surge ahead in the ratings war. In reality, though, the outspoken New Yorker’s controversial creative calls triggered a spectacular backfire. Undaunted by WCW’s eventual downfall, Russo stayed entrenched in the industry, making a short-lived WWE comeback before signing on with the upstart TNA, coming and going multiple times over the next 12 years.
