Trevor Strnad, the singer of melodic death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder, sadly passed away earlier this year. The band released an official statement hinting that the probable cause of death was suicide. Strnad was 41 years old. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor Scott Strnad,” the band wrote on Instagram.

“Beloved son, brother, and Shepard of good times, he was loved by all that met him. A walking encyclopedia of all things music. He was a hugger, a writer, and truly one of the world’s greatest entertainers. His lyrics provided the world with stories and spells and horror and whimsy. It was his life to be your show.” The post also included the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Earlier this week, The Black Dahlia Murder released an official memorial shirt to benefit Strnad’s funeral expenses and also to help charity. Available via Nightshift Merchandise, the tribute to Strnad for the shirt reads: “Trevor Scott Strnad, May 3, 1981 – May 11, 2022: Beloved son, brother, and Shepard of good times, he was loved by all that met him. A walking encyclopedia of all things music. He was a hugger, a writer, and truly one of the world’s greatest entertainers. His lyrics provided the world with stories and spells and horror and whimsy. It was his life to be your show. We thank all Trevor’s friends, family, and The Black Dahlia Murder fans around the world for the massive outpouring of support during this time. The Strnad family has approved this official memorial t-shirt in his honor. All proceeds will help his family cover expenses incurred by Trevor’s death and benefit the Common Ground Resource & Crisis Center. Direct donations can also be made directly to Common Ground in Trevor’s name at: www.commongroundhelps.org/donate.”

The shirt features a portrait of Strnad inside an archway frame of ruins featuring 4 cloaked figures in each doorway with Strnad in The Black Dahlia Murder logo inspired text. It was compiled from work by Mark Riddick, Nathaniel Shannon and Spearhead Illustration. To order the shirt, click here.

The Black Dahlia Murder formed in Waterford, Michigan in 2001. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. Their last seven albums had charted on the U.S. Billboard 200, and they are considered one of the most popular contemporary American extreme metal bands.
