Many fans are expecting Gunther vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship to steal the show at SummerSlam, especially with the threat of Seth Rollins cashing in his Money In The Bank contract looming. However, if Rollins doesn’t leave the show with the belt, it now appears likely that Punk will, as according to Dave Meltzer, current champion Gunther “has a nose issue,” and therefore may be taking some time off.
37-year-old Gunther, real name Walter Hahn, broke into the business in 2005 and signed with WWE in 2019 after making his name in Europe. Subsequently, he became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history at 666 days, having defeated Ricochet on SmackDown for the championship in June 2022. However, his most significant career achievement occurred at last year’s SummerSlam when he defeated Damian Priest for his first World Heavyweight Championship.
