Almost as soon as John Cena revealed that 2025 would be his final year in the ring, fans began speculating that he would get to win a 17th world championship, which would allow him to surpass the record he holds alongside Ric Flair for most reigns. However, while this is a popular suggestion online, it seems one of the biggest names in WWE history disagrees. This is because The Undertaker has stated on his podcast he feels Cena should be focusing on putting others over, having shown that he would rather be “in Hollywood instead of here.”
While Ric Flair is recognized as a 16-time world champion by WWE, technically, he could be listed as a 25-time world champion. This is because, on multiple occasions, Flair would drop the title and subsequently win it back within a day or two while touring, and as it usually never aired on television, it wasn’t officially recognized. Still, this discussion could soon be a moot point if Cena defeats Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 for the Undisputed WWE Championship and takes the record for himself.
