In a new interview with Joel Madden, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up about the profound personal regret that he and his father, Rocky Johnson, were not on speaking terms when he passed away in January 2020. Their estrangement followed a heated argument during Christmas 2019, with the wrestling legend passing away just a few weeks later from a blockage in the lung’s artery caused by a blood clot from deep vein thrombosis in his leg. Still, despite the unresolved tension, The Rock feels an even stronger spiritual connection to his father in reflection.
Johnson, born Wayde Douglas Bowles in Nova Scotia, Canada, was a pioneering professional wrestler. Debuting in the mid-1960s, he excelled in the NWA, becoming the first Black Georgia Heavyweight Champion and holding multiple regional titles. In 1983, with Tony Atlas, he made history as half of the first black WWF Tag Team Champions. After retiring in 1991, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his son in 2008, an event that, at the time, was likely a highlight for both men.
