On Monday night, Mickey Rourke took to Instagram to vehemently deny any involvement in a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $100,000 to help him avoid eviction and cover $60,000 in back rent. The star of “Sin City” and “9½ Weeks” stated in the video, “If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f*cking charity,” and said he intends to consult a lawyer.
This has therefore raised many questions about who launched the campaign and exactly what’s happening to the money generously donated. And now The Hollywood Reporter has spoken directly to Rourke’s manager of nine years, Kimberly Hines, who confirmed that the actor approved the idea but likely didn’t fully understand it and has now “flipped out.”
While Mickey Rourke is a famous name thanks to his movie career, he is best known for playing Randy Robinson in Darren Aronofsky’s 2008 film “The Wrestler.” For this part, he trained extensively with real wrestlers and performed the in-ring bumps seen in the movie, earning himself an Oscar nomination for his performance. To promote the film, Rourke appeared at WrestleMania 25 in 2009, knocking out Chris Jericho post-match after a proposed match between the pair was disappointingly canceled.
