At Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, Yungblud, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry as well as Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne with a medley of his solo classics “Crazy Train” and “Mama I’m Coming Home,” as well as Black Sabbath’s “Changes.” While many praised the performance including Ozzy’s son, Jack, guitarist Dan Hawkins of The Darkness wasn’t having it.
Hawkins shared a clip of Ariana Grande’s reaction to the performance and wrote text on the clip: “What a bunch of bellends.” He also added the caption: “Another nail in the coffin of rock n roll. Cynical, nauseating and more importantly; sh*t. Makes me sick how people jump on this sh*t to further their own careers. #whatabunchofc*nts.”
SiriusXM DJ Eddie Trunk praised the performance saying: “Just watched the Ozzy tribute on @MTV #VMAs Great! Very well done. Say what you will about these awards now but props to them for doing that and giving it that much of a segment. It was the one true real live rock moment in the whole show and everyone in it crushed.”
