Last week, AL.com reported that Ted Nugent’s July 18 concert at the Avondale Brewing Co. in Birmingham, Alabama was canceled a day before tickets were scheduled to go on sale.
A nearby bar, Al’s on 7th, issued a statement saying it would no longer support Avondale Brewing or its parent company if the Nugent concert were to take place.
“Al’s will no longer purchase any beer from Avondale Brewing Company nor Good People Brewing Company,” the bar said in the social media post. “Avondale will be hosting a Ted Nugent concert in July. Nugent has recently made serious transphobic comments.”
Avondale Brewing took to social media to confirm the cancelation of Nugent’s show saying: “We have heard the concerns of the Avondale community, which is so important to us, and in conjunction with our partners, have taken the necessary steps to to cancel the Ted Nugent concert scheduled for July 18.”
Nugent took to Twitter to address the scrapped show sharing the AL.com article and writing: “liars & haters drunk on stupid incapable to debate me.”
Last month, Nugent revealed he was embarking on his final tour. The Avondale Brewing Co. show was part of his final trek.
“This is ‘Adios Mofo’. This is my last tour,” Nugent said. “Now I’ll always play music. I’ve got new records I’m gonna make. I can’t wait to unleash some of these new songs. I’ve got an instrumental called ‘Butter Fingers’ that is just greasy. You can’t eat barbecue ever again adequately without the song ‘Butter Fingers’ playing loud next to your brisket.”
“The point being is thank you, everybody, for an incredible musical dream,” he continued. “The musical dream will continue but I’m not going on tour anymore because hotels are jail. [Laughs] A hotel room is jail for me. My dogs won’t allow me to not spend a day with them, so they will go on the road with me this year. But the logistics are just too complicated when you have dogs and grandkids and kids and so many other things.”
