System Of A Down has had several issues in recent years, mostly stemming from the fact that singer Serj Tankian said he thinks the band should move on without him. The group hasn’t put out new material since 2005, and many of the band’s fans have wondered if the band called it quits.
Bassist Shavo Odadjian talked about the break-up rumors in a new interview with Wall of Sound. “We’re not broken up,” he said. “People think we’re broken up because we haven’t made music. Yeah, there are creative differences, and that happens. But it doesn’t mean that we can’t be on stage together and we can’t rehearse together.”
Odadjian also said that despite those differences, the band remains close. “And I hang out with John [Dolmayan] daily — John and I are like brothers. And I love the other two. I don’t see them as much, but when I do see them, it’s like we never stopped hanging out. It’s like that type of friendship. We’re always gonna be friends no matter what.”
Tankian hasn’t ruled out doing a new album at some point, though the chances seem slim. “I would say if System ever decided to make a record, it would be a fresh start in a brand new way, in a beautiful new direction,” the singer said.
