Metallica’s classic 1986 tune “Master Of Puppets” got a major boost when it was included in a memorable scene in the Netflix hit “Stranger Things.” The character of Eddie Munson (played by Joseph Quinn) performs “the most metal concert ever” in the dark, alternate universe of the show as he tries to help his friends vanquish the show’s villain, Vecna.

Unfortunately, it appears Munson didn’t survive the show’s fourth season as he sacrificed himself to save his friends.

Recently, the “Stranger Things” Twitter account posted the official title of the first episode of Season 5, “The Crawl,” and many fans are theorizing that it hints at Eddie’s return, and possibly more Metallica music in the show. Two “Master Of Puppets” lyrics in particular — “Come crawling faster / Obey your master” — are what fans are speculating the title is based on.

On TikTok, numerous fans of the show and Metallica have chimed in on a viral post. “Is Eddie actually going to be alive?” a fan of the show questioned in a video explaining the theory, which involves Metallica lyrics.

“Out of all your theories, this one is the only one that makes sense and might actually be real,” one person commented. “[Maybe] vecna is going to use him as a puppet,” another viewer noted.

Metallica thanked “Stranger Things” producers, The Duffer Brothers, for the inclusion of their song in the show. They also jammed with Quinn at a rehearsal for their headlining gig at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

During the hang, Metallica gifted Quinn with a custom, signed B.C. Rich guitar similar to the one he played on the show. Metallica frontman James Hetfield said in a video (which can be viewed below) that he’s enjoyed “Stranger Things” since its inception. “My kids and I, it’s been a bonding experience for us,” Hetfield said. Quinn said he constantly listened to the song for the past two years, and that he felt “very connected” to the band. “Thank you so much for letting us use the track,” Quinn said. “Thanks for doing it justice,” Hetfield replied.

Time will tell if Eddie Munson makes his return.
