Smashing Pumpkins Share Details For Rock & Wrestling Tour

Legendary alternative rockers The Smashing Pumpkins are gearing up for a tour of Australia with a huge cast of guests that includes Jane’s Addiction, Amyl & the Sniffers, Redhook and Rattlesnake.

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has also been the owner and president of the National Wrestling Alliance since 2018, and plans to include the NWA on the trek.

A storied promotion for decades, the NWA was largely cast aside in the mid-’80s when the World Wrestling Federation juggernaut swallowed nearly all in its path. Corgan’s purchase of the company signaled a new era for the NWA, and the retro feel and old-school style of its “NWA Powerrr” program caught the eyes of wrestling fans old and new.

The Australian shows will feature matches between the NWA and Wresting Alliance of Australia (WAOA) in between sets. The tour marks the Pumpkins’ first trip to Australia since 2015.

Earlier this week, the band also released “Act II” of their new rock opera “ATUM.” In September last year the band announced the new three-part opera serving as a sequel to their classic double records ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ (1995) and ‘Machina/The Machines Of God’ (2000).

“Act I” was then released in November and featured 11 songs including title track ‘ATUM’.

Corgan recently told NME of the project: “Because there’s a lot of people who believe less is more these days. I’m on the opposite side – I actually think more is more!”

The ‘ATUM’ trilogy will be completed upon the release of ‘Act III’ on April 21, which will arrive with a three-part boxset and 10 unreleased bonus tracks.

The tour runs from April 15 to April 30. Here are the dates:

Saturday, April 15 – Stuart Park, Wollongong
Sunday, April 16 – Sandstone Point, Bribie Island
Tuesday, April 18 – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
Wednesday, April 19 – Newcastle Entertainment Centre
