Friday night’s pre-taped SmackDown featured Omos’ manager MVP beaten up by Braun Strowman, writing him off television. And now it’s been reported by Fightful Select this was done to explain why MVP wouldn’t be at Crown Jewel. As according to the report, MVP went from being a Muslim to an atheist and faced a penalty if he traveled to Saudi Arabia. This is known as apostasy and could result in corporal punishment, a lengthy prison sentences, and, shockingly, even execution.
MVP did not make the trip to Saudi Arabia, and his spot with Braun Strowman was to help explain why he wouldn’t be there. In actuality, MVP is a former Muslim turned atheist, which is punishable in Saudi Arabia.
Fightful SelectWhile it’s believed the most severe punishment is rarely given out, in July 2013, one individual was sentenced to seven years in prison and 600 lashes. And even though Saudi Arabia has lightened its stance on many things since Mohammed bin Salman took power, abandoning a religious belief or principle remains a great taboo. Therefore MVP not attending the event is undoubtedly the right move, and seemingly ongoing, he will miss future shows like Sami Zayn unless special dispensation is given.
